Slight change of desktop

A while back I changed a few things on my desktop to increase ease of use. Here is the result.
Note the geekery? A folder for an anime series (Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), a system monitor, LaTeX editor in the dock... etc.

Easter Japanese movie galore

So, I watched 2 Japanese movies tonight.
First, I watched Visitor Q, directed by Takashi Miike. If you want to see a weird movie and be truly shocked (yes, this movie does include necrophilia), watch it!!

Second, I watched an anime classic: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? from 1984. Watch this if you love cheesy Japanese pop music... By the way, the story is quite good and the animation is great.

Open-air sauna

Today, it was arguably the hottest and most humid day I have ever experienced. Not only was it 34 degrees, this was at 60% humidity. This resulted in a humidex of 46 degrees. Sure, I have been in hotter air temperatures than 34 degrees (e.g. Southwest US), but not at this level of humidity. Nevertheless my friends, it felt like an open-air sauna!! Fortunately, a massive thunderstorm with some incredible lightning (no pics unfortunately) brought some cooling down, so that I go to sleep at a humidex of only 35 degrees.
It may surprise you, but I get annoyed by air-conditioners in such heat. When I entered the supermarket early this afternoon, it felt like getting "an icepick in the forehead". It was bloody cold!! After getting used to that and having done the groceries, I walked home again only to feel the humidity even more profoundly. Therefore, as long as I can keep my place comfortable enough with fans, they are the way to go.

Fantasia film festival 2006

Unfortunately, Fantasia 2006 has come to an end again. This year I went to see (only) 4 movies. In order to share with you and have a reminder for myself, here is the list of movies that I saw:
Blood Rain

Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shambala

The Great Yokai War

Re-Cycle

My favorite among these four was The Great Yokai War, Takashi Miike's (of Ichi the Killer-fame/infamy) rendition of a kids movie! And in fact, it is a kids movie but of course with a twist. It is after all a Miike movie.

Italians celebrating on St.Viateur, Montréal

Yesterday was the World Cup final and we all know the outcome. I went to watch the match at Club Social on St.Viateur (here in Montréal which is an Italian coffee place. Needless to say that the patrons and many other Italians (or those from Italian descent) were exhilarated after the last penalty shot was converted by Grosso. Here are some pictures.
